Chise wakes up in the laboratory. Cartaphilius explains his plan: since he is cursed with eternal life and Chise is cursed to die, he proposes to swap her arm for his own, hoping it will curse him to die and for her to live. After forcibly performing eye transplantation, Cartaphilius enters Chise's mind. While Chise was tormented by creatures, her father and brother died abandoning the latter, and her mother committed suicide after a failed attempt to kill her.
